The Sephardic Center of Fair Lawn is a religious community center that welcomes all Jews.
In 2005 our community got started with a small Minyan of Israelis and Hebrew speakers meeting in a member's home. A few months later our group had grown large enough for us to rent space in the basement of Young Israel Synagogue, where we were able to organize a daily Minyan for morning services. It wasn’t long before we began to hold daily Minyans for all three services.
As our membership continued to grow, so did our desire to progress personally and spiritually. SCFL started to schedule religious classes during the evening hours for men, women and children. B"H due to the commitment and help of several renowned rabbis, we began to see our congregation flourish. Our community has had the great simcha of welcoming several Ba’alei Teschuvah to our shul and several members have become Shomer Shabbat. They attribute their transformations in great part to the SCFL community and its ongoing activities.
Our community currently numbers 30 plus families and continues to grow rapidly. We built a shul of our own on the corner of Saddle River Road and Terhune Place. We are blessed to have as our leader Rabbi Avidan Elkin, a rav whom with his profound grasp of Torah concepts, leads our congregation with true Torah chesed. His lovely wife, Oshrat, helps us maintain a focus on an always deepening personal commitment to developing midot tovot.
